Pandemic sparks Kojima's imagination for "hands" mask in Death Stranding 2
Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima shared an interesting story about the creation of the unusual design element of the Fragile character's mask in the Death Stranding 2: On the Beach trailer.
It refers to the small animated "second hand" on Fragile's (Léa Seydoux) shoulders. According to Kojima, during the pandemic period, he suddenly thought:
I'd like to "like (hand sign)" and rest the chin with both hands even when you have luggage in both hands.
Then Kojima drew a simple sketch and sent it to artist Yoji Shinkawa. They exchanged ideas online and finalized the design. As the designer noted, this "second hand" will be able to make various gestures and movements in DS2.
According to Kojima, Léa Seydoux really liked this idea. He also expressed hope that this "mask" will become popular in the fashion world as well.
That's what kind of creative ideas come to the legendary game designer's mind. It is not surprising that his games always stand out for their unconventional approach and creativity. We can only eagerly await the release of Death Stranding 2 to see this amusing "second hand" in action.
Death Stranding 2 is scheduled for 2025 on PS5.
