Nintendo Switch 2 will cost $450, Mario Kart World priced at $80

Nintendo revealed numerous details about the Switch 2 during today's Direct presentation, including a June 5, 2025 release date. However, the Direct concluded without mentioning the console's price. This information was reserved for when pre-orders opened following the presentation.

Fans had been attempting to predict how much Nintendo might charge for the Switch 2, and those who guessed $450 were correct. The base price for the Nintendo Switch 2 will be $449.99. A bundle including the newly announced Mario Kart World will also be available for $499.99, representing good value considering the game's standalone price.

The Mario Kart World product page is now live, confirming the launch title will cost $79.99, resulting in a $30 saving when purchased with the console bundle. This pricing represents a significant increase that may surprise many players. Nintendo released only one $70 game on the original Switch — The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — and now appears to have surpassed that mark, potentially establishing a new standard for the next generation.

Nintendo concluded the Direct with an announcement for Donkey Kong Bonanza, scheduled to release on Switch 2 on July 17. The game's Nintendo website page confirms that $80 won't become the new standard for Nintendo exclusives. However, this title's $70 price tag suggests Nintendo has at least moved to the industry standard pricing established by other major publishers.

The $80 price point for Mario Kart World will serve as an interesting test for Nintendo. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which launched at $60 and rarely went on sale throughout the Switch lifecycle, became one of the best-selling games of all time. Nintendo appears confident that the 60 million people who own that game will be willing to pay more than ever before for a Nintendo title to experience World.
